Description:
Brooklyn Community Services (BCS) is one of Brooklyns first and largest non-sectarian social services agencies, serving more than 10,000 individuals annually with services across education and child care; family strengthening; and self-sufficiency for adults. Third Avenue is a NYC DHS transitional shelter program designed to provide employment assistance and permanent housing for young women ages 18 - 25 years old, located in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
Summary
The Job Developer is responsible for helping clients find permanent employment and achieve self-sufficiency. The role involves developing and maintaining employer relationships to identify opportunities, matching clients with job openings, arranging interviews, and communicating the benefits of the program to both employers and clients with the goal of placement and long-term retention.
Responsibilities- Research and regularly initiate contact with potential employers; obtain position details.
- Provide job development services and maintain employer relationships to elicit job vacancies.
- Research labor market information, economic data, and hiring trends to target opportunities.
- Assist clients with tailoring resumes and cover letters, coaching in soft skills, conducting mock interviews, and aiding with job applications.
- Offer one-on-one coaching and group job preparation to job seekers to improve employment outcomes.
- Prepare and maintain accurate documentation of client progress, employer relationships, resumes, interviews, feedback, and placement data for periodic reports.
- Determine client requirements and record appropriate data related to job descriptions.
- Develop workplace skills to secure internships and align with employer expectations.
- Propose qualified applicants to clients and review applications to meet work requirements.
- Maintain ongoing contact with referral sources and other service providers; participate in vendor fairs and recruitment events as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or GED with two years of applicable experience, or Bachelors degree in Human Services or equivalent experience; counseling skills preferred.
- Good verbal and written communication skills; strong organizational abilities.
- Ability to interface effectively with staff, employers, and community agencies.
