Program OverviewCayuga Centers is an accredited non‑profit dedicated to family support, trauma‑informed care, and serving vulnerable populations. The Transitional Foster Care Program for Unaccompanied Children (UC) provides medical care, case management, life‑skills classes, and mental services to children aged 0‑17 who cross the US border without an adult. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, the Youth Transportation Specialist ensures safe and timely travel for youth throughout New York State and beyond.
Responsibilities- Provide transportation to medical, legal, and social services appointments.
- Communicate respectfully with children, foster parents, and team members; report behavior and incidents to the team.
- Assist with intake and discharge transportation; travel state‑to‑state for reunification with sponsors.
- Offer language interpretation at community appointments as needed.
- Supervise youth in class settings when required.
- Support the intake process and maintain case documentation.
- Maintain professional boundaries and supervise youth appropriately.
- Provide assistance during case emergencies.
- Pick up or deliver possessions.
- High school diploma or GED required; associate's degree preferred.
- One year of experience working with families and children.
- Experience in a busy human services office preferred.
- Ability to work with diverse cultures, including recent immigrants and LGBTQ youth.
- Calmness, composure, and crisis response skills.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Bilingual in English/Spanish required; all agency documents are in English.
- Valid NYS Driver’s License.
- Willingness to travel to agency locations and drive within NYC and nationwide.
- Handle various transportation modes, including air travel.
- Perform bending, lifting, and prolonged sitting/standing.
- Lift up to 60 pounds.
- Use computers for extended periods.
- Conduct paperwork and drive vehicles for several hours.
- Use public transportation for long periods.
- Walk and climb stairs as needed.
- Regular hours: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday‑Friday.
- Required flexibility for program needs and travel.
- Availability for afternoons, evenings, and weekends as needed.
