32BJ SEIU has approximately 450 staff in sixteen offices from Boston to Miami. 32BJ SEIU represents over 185,000 property service workers including janitors, security officers, airport workers, and food service employees in eleven states and Washington, DC. 32BJ is an affiliate of SEIU, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which has two million members dedicated to raising industry standards and making life better for all working families and communities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Airports Field Representative’s primary responsibility is to engage union members in district and union-wide programs by establishing, activating, and maintaining a member leadership structure. This position reports to the Lead Airports Field Representative.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Identifying and developing Shop Stewards and member leaders across assigned worksites.
• Expanding the activist base by engaging members in district-wide and union-wide initiatives.
• Developing and executing worksite- and company-level contract campaigns.
• Supporting organizing campaigns among non-union workers within our industries.
• Connecting member leaders to broader social and economic justice movements.
• Setting goals and measuring progress, developing work plans for their turf, and holding themselves and their member leaders accountable.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE The ideal candidate will bring previous experience in union or community organizing or comparable experience. A demonstrated commitment to social justice is required. While no one candidate will possess every quality outlined for this position, the successful candidate will bring many of the following professional skills and personal attributes:

• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to the labor movement and broader social justice work.
• Ability to build respectful, effective relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Working knowledge of collective bargaining and contract administration.
• Experience drafting proposals, leading negotiations, and running contract campaigns.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in basic administrative and computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, email, and database tools.
• Willingness to conduct site visits at airports and house visit workers at their homes.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This is a full‑time position based in the New York Headquarters. It requires working beyond standard business hours, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays. The role involves regular travel to JFK and LaGuardia airports, with occasional overnight travel to other East Coast locations. A valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle with insurance are required. The position also requires participation in marches, demonstrations, and events lasting 3–4 hours, as well as the ability to transport and set up at least 15 pounds of equipment and navigate stairs.
