ATD (Alternative to Detention) is an intensive community-based program serving court-involved youth between the ages of 12 and 18 who have been mandated to an ATD program by the Family Court pending disposition of their court case. TheYouth Coachwill work with a cohort of up to 13mentees providing community support, guidance, and crisis intervention.

Title: Youth Coach, Alternative to Detention (ATD) Program

Reports to: PROGRAM DIRECTOR, ATD

Location: 692 Blake Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11207

Hours: 35 Hours/Week;
Non-Exempt

Schedule: Non-Traditional hours, including evenings and weekends.

Major Duties of the Youth Coach:

  • Serve as mentor for up to 13 court-involved youth ages 13-18, who are at risk for detention
  • Work with mentees and family members to develop healthy communication skills and coping mechanisms.
  • Work with mentees to reflect on their current decision-making process and develop short- and long-term goals.
  • Escort mentees to school, court, DOP meetings and other required engagements as needed.
  • Work with Service Coordinator make referrals to appropriate community resources for mentees and family members.
  • Create opportunities for participants to maximize their potential through the provision of engaging programming, high expectations, and high-quality services.
  • Meet with the Program Director for bi-weekly supervision.
  • Participate in case conferences and staff meetings.
  • Communicate with ACS and DOP staff as appropriate.
  • Use internal and external databases as required.
  • Plan trips and events for participants.
  • Participate in development and implementation of processes that ensure integration of participant feedback in program planning.
  • Participate in agency work groups and committees.
  • Participate in all ACS training and technical assistance sessions as required.

Youth Coach Qualifications:

  • Experience and comfort working with court-involved youth required.
  • Familiarity with Brooklyn and the challenges faced by youth living in the borough.
  • Experience working with families preferred.
  • Familiarity with strength-based/youth development principles.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed,
