The Social Worker provides specialized support to students, families, and staff within a therapeutic special education day school setting. This role plays a key part in addressing students’ social-emotional behavioral, and mental-health needs to ensure their success in the classroom and beyond. The School Social Worker delivers individual and group counseling crisis interventions, support and case management aligned with each student’s IEP.

The School Social Worker collaborates closely with teachers, related service providers, administrators and families to create a safe, supportive and trauma-informed learning environment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Execute agency and program policy and procedure.
• Provide individual and group counseling sessions as mandated on students IEPs.
• Support students in developing social, emotional, behavioral and coping skills.
• Support crisis intervention and de-escalation, supporting students during emotional or behavioral emergencies.
• Participate in the development of Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and BIPs.
• Create, implement and monitor Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPS) in collaboration with the clinical and instructional team.
• Conduct social-emotional and behavioral screenings, as appropriate.
• Support Pre-K students with early social-emotional development, separation issues and foundational communication skills.
• Provide clinical input for IEP development, progress reports and annual reviews.
• Complete required counseling session notes, progress monitoring, parent training and documentation in a timely and compliant manner.
• Maintain confidential student records and adhere to all ethical, regulatory and school policies.
• Collaborate with teachers related service providers and administrators to support student success.
• Provide staff consultation and professional support for managing behavior, trauma-informed practices and student mental health needs.
• Provide supervision and guidance to interns as needed, ensuring skill development and adherence to program expectations
• Serve as a liaison between school and home, maintain regular communication with parents/guardians
• Provide families with community resources, referrals and crisis support as needed.
• Assist families with coordinating external services and wrap around supports
• Support parents who may live at a distance and who have limited ability to attend onsite meetings by offering flexible communication options (phone, virtual meetings, etc.).
• Facilitate parent training sessions and help families reinforce school intervention at home.
• Participate in CSE/CPSE meetings, annual reviews, re-evaluations, IEP planning, and school-based TCIS training

NYS Social Work License required; LCSWpreferred

One (1) Year counseling experience with children and families preferred

Related work experience preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements:

Regular interaction with students who may exhibit challenging behaviors, including emotional dysregulation, aggression or elopement.

May be required to lift up to 40 pounds.
