Who Are We?

Have you struggled to reserve that coveted summer camping spot at a state park? Wondered why you’re still filling out a paper form at the DMV? Or tried (and failed) to book your favorite pickleball court from your phone?

Kaizen Labs is rebuilding the government’s digital front door - bringing modern, people-first software to the public services millions of Americans rely on every day. From parks & recreation and permitting to licensing and payments, we’re replacing outdated systems with intuitive, beautiful technology designed for residents and the public servants who serve them.

Our platform now powers over 50 agencies across 17 states, reaching more than 30 million residents. Recent partners include Maricopa County (AZ), San Bernardino County (CA), and the Cherokee Nation. In Maryland, our platform helped eliminate seven-mile traffic jams at state parks, saving hundreds of thousands in costs and dramatically improving the visitor experience.

Founded in 2022 and based in New York City, Kaizen has raised $35 million from world-class investors, including NEA, Andreessen Horowitz, Accel, 776, and Carpenter Capital.

We’re a team of builders, designers, and operators redefining what it means to serve the public in the digital age - and we’re just getting started.

Location

This is a hybrid role based out of our New York City HQ. Candidates must reside in New York or be able to commute to New York City to work out of our office at least three times a week (Tuesdays - Thursdays).

The Role

We are looking for a Quality Engineer who will elevate the reliability, usability, and performance of our platform as we modernize how government agencies deliver digital services. You will design and implement robust automated testing frameworks, partner closely with product and engineering teams, and ensure high-quality releases across our web and mobile experiences.

What You’ll Do
  • Build, maintain, and scale automated test suites across web and mobile using modern frameworks, with a strong preference for Playwright

  • Develop and execute automated tests to ensure coverage across browsers and device types

  • Partner with engineers, designers, and product managers to define clear acceptance criteria and embed quality early in the development process

  • Own test strategy for new features, including functional, regression, accessibility, and end-to-end testing

  • Implement CI-integrated test pipelines that ensure reliable, repeatable, fast validation of builds

  • Identify, document, and drive resolution of defects while helping the team improve root-cause analysis

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of QA tools, standards, and best practices

  • Advocate for a quality-first mindset across the engineering organization

Who You Are
  • A quality-driven engineer passionate about building reliable, user-centered software

  • Comfortable collaborating across engineering, design, and product

  • A systems thinker who can balance automation depth with speed

  • Someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-ownership startup environment

What You’ll Bring
  • 5+ Years of experience with creating automated test frameworks using Playwright (preferred), Selenium, Cypress, and/or Appium

  • Strong understanding of web application architecture, APIs, and microservices

  • Experience integrating test automation into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Git Hub Actions, Circle

    CI, etc.)

  • Practical knowledge of JavaScript/Type Script or similar languages for test writing

  • Experience with debugging tools and performance testing methodologies

  • Ability to translate ambiguous requirements into clear test plans and scenarios

  • Strong communication and documentation habits

Strong Candidates May Also…
  • Have experience in government technology, civic tech, or public-facing critical systems

  • Bring familiarity with accessibility testing and compliance standards

  • Have exposure to observability and product analytics tools (e.g., Sentry, Datadog, Posthog)

  • Have experience mentoring others on QA best practices
