Sr. Software Development Engineer – Amazon Redshift, Query Processing

Join the Amazon Web Services (AWS) team as a Senior Software Development Engineer focused on Amazon Redshift’s Query Processing. Amazon Redshift is a fully managed, AI-powered, petabyte‑scale cloud data warehouse that helps enterprises crunch exabytes of data to make business‑critical decisions.

Role Overview

We are actively hiring a talented Senior Software Engineer in the Query Processing team of Redshift. Query processing sits at the heart of Redshift’s data plane and is responsible for the massive parallel execution engine.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build systems that benefit Redshift clusters worldwide, owning feature definition, architecture, and end‑to‑end delivery from design through deployment, monitoring, and operations.
  • Take significant ownership of the overall product vision, defining new features and architecture.
  • Distill complex and ambiguous requirements into meaningful projects that provide immense customer value.
  • Lead engineers on substantial projects, mentoring and hiring to grow the team.
  • Participate in design discussions, code review, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work cross‑functionally to drive business decisions with technical input.
  • Create metrics, implement automation and other improvements, and resolve root causes of software defects.
  • Build high‑impact solutions for our large customer base and help drive efficiencies in software architecture.
Day in the Life

As a Senior Software Development Engineer, you will design and code solutions to drive efficiencies in architecture, manage metrics and automation, and resolve software defects. You’ll collaborate across teams, lead by example, and drive excellence in design and code.

About the Team

The team works on Redshift’s execution engine, focusing on high scalability, performance, and extending its capabilities.

Basic Qualifications
  • 5+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience
  • 5+ years of programming with at least one modern language (Java, C++, Rust, or Python)
  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture of new and existing systems
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or engineering team lead
  • Experience with distributed computing and enterprise‑wide systems
  • Proficiency in a modern programming language building highly available systems
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent
  • Strong coding skills with emphasis on logical thinking, data structures, algorithms, and problem solving
  • Experience with distributed multi‑tiered systems architecture
  • Experience performing live system and core analysis using GDB

Compensation

Base pay ranges from $151,300/year to $261,500/year depending on market location. Additional equity, sign‑on payments, and benefits may apply.
