About

The Role

Door Dash is building the world's most reliable on-demand, logistics engine for delivery. We are continuing to grow rapidly and are expanding our Engineering offices globally. This role is for staff backend engineers to build and maintain a large scale 24×7 global infrastructure system that powers Door Dash's 3‑sided marketplace of Consumers, Merchants and Dashers. You’ll work on both Product and Product Platform teams, collaborating cross‑functionally and influencing our technical roadmaps.

This role is hybrid with some in‑office time expected and will report to an Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, release and run large‑scale web applications.
  • Design the backend architecture and tech stack for a product area.
  • Improve performance, reliability, scalability and security for backend systems.
  • Help transition our monolithic codebase to a microservice‑based architecture.
  • Disrupt logistics by tackling bleeding‑edge technical problems.
Qualifications
  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of industry experience.
  • Prior experience with backend tech stacks.
  • Ability to analyze and improve efficiency, scalability, and stability of various system resources.
  • Experience with SOA, writing REST APIs, unit testing, and architectural design.
  • Understanding of modern web stacks and architecture (HTTP, REST).
  • Experience with SQL and No

    SQL databases and other technologies (e.g., Postgres, Redis, Elasticsearch, Rabbit

    MQ).

Compensation

The successful candidate’s starting pay will fall within the pay range listed below and is determined based on job‑related factors including skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. Base salary is localized according to an employee’s work location. Ranges are market‑dependent and may be modified in the future.

Time Off Details
  • For salaried roles: flexible paid time off/vacation, plus 80 hours of paid sick time per year.
  • For hourly roles: vacation accrued at about 1 hour every 25.97 hours worked (≈ 6.7 h/month if working 40 h/week). Paid sick time accrued at 1 hour every 30 hours worked (≈ 5.8 h/month if working 40 h/week).
Payroll Ranges by Level
  • I4: $130,600—$192,000 USD
  • I5: $159,800—$235,000 USD
  • I6: $193,800—$285,000 USD
