We’re looking for a Java Backend Engineer to:

• design, develop, and continuously improve intelligent digital products and services that support our employees and HR stakeholders – with AI at the core
• apply a broad range of modern engineering practices, from analyzing user needs and developing new features to automated testing, deployment and observability
• ensure the quality, security, reliability, and compliance of our solutions by applying our digital principles and implementing both functional and non‑functional requirements
• build observability into our solutions, monitor production health, help to resolve incidents, and remediate the root cause of risks and issues
• advocate for user and stakeholder needs, ensuring that AI solutions are explainable, ethical, and human‑centric
• share your knowledge openly, contribute to hiring and onboarding, and help shape a collaborative, forward‑thinking engineering culture

Detailed salary information:
The expected salary range for this role (New York) is $140 000 to $180 000. The role may also be eligible for discretionary incentive compensation.

You’ll be part of the AI Engineering team within the GOTO Group HRCS Technology organization. Our mission is to simplify and digitize the HR application landscape while delivering AI‑powered solutions that enhance the employee experience. Based in New York, US, you’ll work in an agile, autonomous pod alongside product managers, designers, and fellow engineers, with a strong focus on collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science or foreign equivalent
• strong experience in Java and Spring Boot (including Spring Batch and Spring Cloud)
• proficiency in REST API and Graph
  
  QL schema design
• experience with No
  
  SQL data modelling (e.g. Azure Cosmos DB), data streaming (e.g. Confluent Kafka), and authentication/authorization protocols (OAuth 2.0, MSFT Entra
  
  ID)
• familiarity with Azure Cloud Services (App Services, Azure Monitor, API Management)
• a collaborative communicator – you express ideas clearly in English and adapt technical content for diverse audiences, while working closely with product managers, designers, and engineers in agile settings
• a strong commitment to quality, maintainability, documentation, and continuous learning
• AI‑related skills (e.g. Spring AI, Lang Chain, Llama Index, Tensor Flow) are a strong plus
