- Strong professional experience with modern PHP and production applications, including object-oriented programming and contemporary coding practices

- Experience with structured PHP frameworks or application architectures;
Symfony is desirable, and Laravel experience is relevant
- Familiarity with MVC patterns, controllers, services, models, middleware, routing, REST APIs, and external integrations
- Ability to independently investigate unfamiliar backend code and work effectively in an established codebase
- Strong SQL skills and professional experience with PostgreSQL or a comparable relational database, including queries, schemas, relationships, migrations, permissions, and transactional workflows

- Experience with an ORM such as Eloquent or Doctrine

- Working experience with JavaScript, Type Script, HTML5, CSS3/SCSS, responsive design, Flexbox, Grid, reusable UI patterns, and API-driven interfaces
- Familiarity with lightweight JavaScript frameworks such as Alpine.js, Stimulus, or HTMX, or comparable server-rendered and progressively enhanced approaches
- Ability to implement polished interfaces from Figma designs, with sound UI/UX judgment and understanding of cross-browser compatibility
- Clear communication with technical and non-technical colleagues, independent working style, and a pragmatic approach to maintainable engineering
- Comparable technology experience sufficient to become productive in our environment; prior experience with every listed technology is not required
- Helpful additional experience includes Symfony, Laravel, Alpine.js, Latte/Twig/Blade, insurance or financial services, Azure, Entra /OAuth/OIDC, Figma, accessibility, frontend performance, build tools, Docker, CI/CD, Git Hub Actions, cloud deployments, AI/LLM integrations, or document-processing workflows### Responsibilities
- Build and maintain features in our existing PHP application, using modern PHP and established application patterns
- Develop backend functionality and maintain controllers, services, models, console commands, and API integrations
- Diagnose and resolve production issues across the frontend, backend, database, integrations, configuration, and infrastructure
- Work with PostgreSQL queries, schemas, data relationships, migrations, and troubleshooting
- Build and improve user-facing workflows with Type Script, Alpine.js, SCSS, and server-rendered templates
- Turn Figma designs and product requirements into clean, responsive interfaces and reusable components
- Integrate REST APIs and external services, including authentication and authorization flows such as Azure Entra /SSO
- Understand our existing architecture before proposing changes, and make maintainable, pragmatic technical decisions
- Collaborate with product, engineering, business stakeholders, and leadership in product and architecture discussions
- Take features from requirements through implementation and production deployment
