Senior Staff Engineer

A leading financial services company is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer to join its Document Shared Services team. This role involves leading modernization programs to enhance the company's document management platform, which is crucial for loan origination and servicing.

• Lead an established engineering team while maintaining delivery momentum.
• Own the delivery plan for the Web Sphere retirement and Axway replacement programs, including scope, sequencing, milestones, and exit criteria.
• Communicate progress, dependencies, and risks to DSS Engineering leadership.
• Plan phased cutovers with coexistence strategies, production validation, and tested rollback procedures to protect business continuity.
• Inventory Java applications and services hosted on IBM Web Sphere Application Server and determine whether to migrate, refactor, or retire each workload.
• Migrate retained workloads to containerized runtimes on Open Shift, such as Spring Boot, Open Liberty, or Quarkus.
• Remove Web Sphere-specific dependencies and modernize build and deployment pipelines.
• Catalog inbound and outbound file flows and expand the DSS file ingestion service on Open Shift and AWS.
• Define patterns for services running on Open Shift and integrating with AWS.
• Establish service-level objectives for critical flows supporting loan origination and servicing.
• Implement monitoring, alerting, capacity planning, graceful degradation, and tested failover.
• Set standards for code quality, testing, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and iterative delivery.
• Review designs and code, mentor engineers, and promote cloud-native practices.

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including several years leading teams responsible for business-critical production systems.
• Experience leading at least one platform retirement or major migration from scoping through cutover and decommissioning without disrupting the business.
• Java:
  Deep expertise, including IBM Web Sphere Application Server or another Java EE application server, and experience migrating workloads to Spring Boot, Open Liberty, Quarkus, or similar runtimes on Kubernetes.
• Type Script and Node.js:
  Working proficiency in developing and supporting services.
• Managed File Transfer:
  Hands-on experience with Axway Secure Transport/B2
  
  Bi or a comparable platform.
• Open Shift/Kubernetes:
  Experience building and operating containerized workloads.
• AWS:
  Hands-on experience with S3, IAM, SQS, SNS, Event Bridge, Lambda, and AWS Transfer Family.
• Messaging:
  Experience with Kafka and IBM MQ.
• APIs and Databases:
  Strong experience with GraphQL, REST API design, and PostgreSQL.

Pay Rate: $80 - $100/hr
