C++ Software Engineer

A proprietary and algorithmic trading firm - New York — forty years in the market and still investing heavily in engineering — is looking for a C++ Software Engineer to join their core low-latency market data team in New York. This is a hands-on individual contributor role working directly on the trading engine: exchange connectivity, market data processing, and algorithmic execution.

The firm is one of the recognised names in global electronic trading, with a long track record of building and owning their technology rather than buying it. Several high-profile internal projects are beginning in Q4 2026 and this hire will be part of them from the start.

This is pure engineering — no people management, no line reports. The expectation is deep technical contribution on systems where microseconds matter and correctness is non-negotiable.

• Core trading engine development — exchange connectivity, order routing, and execution performance
• Low-latency market data processing and feed handling across multiple venues
• Building new components within the market data engineering team, taking individual features from design through to production
• Working alongside FPGA and Java engineering teams on latency optimisation across the platform
• Identifying and implementing performance improvements in live production systems

• 5+ years of commercial C++ development experience — modern C++ (C++17/20), written at scale
• Hands-on experience in a low-latency, market data, or algorithmic trading environment — this is a firm requirement
• Strong Linux/Unix fundamentals — you are comfortable at the system level, not just the application layer
• Familiarity with network programming, lock-free data structures, or kernel bypass techniques is a meaningful advantage
• Scripting experience — Python used practically, not just nominally
• Enough cross-team awareness to collaborate effectively with FPGA and Java engineers without needing everything translated
