Overview
As a Performance/Youth Soccer Strength and Conditioning Coach, you will play a crucial role in helping young soccer players develop the physical attributes and skills necessary to excel in the sport while minimizing the risk of injuries. The job description for this role typically includes the following responsibilities and duties.
Responsibilities- Assessment and Evaluation:
- Conduct initial fitness assessments to determine each player's current physical condition.
- Identify strengths and weaknesses in players' fitness levels, mobility, and overall athleticism.
- Monitor players' progress throughout the season and adjust training programs accordingly.
- Design Training Programs:
- Prepare, conduct and deliver preseason, during season and post season fitness plan.
- Develop individualized strength and conditioning programs tailored to the specific needs and goals for our teams and individual player.
- Create age‑appropriate training regimens that consider the players' developmental stages and physical capabilities.
- Strength Training:
- Instruct players on proper weightlifting and resistance training techniques.
- Supervise strength training sessions to ensure safety and technique.
- Progressively increase the intensity and complexity of strength exercises over time.
- Conditioning Workouts:
- Design aerobic and anaerobic conditioning drills to improve players' endurance, speed, and agility.
- Incorporate soccer-specific movements and drills into conditioning sessions to mimic game situations.
- Injury Prevention:
- Implement injury prevention programs to reduce the risk of common soccer‑related injuries, such as sprains, strains, and overuse injuries.
- Educate players on the importance of warm‑ups, cool‑downs, and proper recovery techniques.
- Follow‑up on injuries with families and players.
- Nutritional Guidance:
- Provide basic nutritional guidance to players, emphasizing the importance of a balanced diet for optimal performance and recovery.
- Discuss hydration strategies and the importance of proper nutrition in maintaining energy levels.
- Motivation and Support:
- Encourage and motivate players to stay committed to their training programs.
- Foster a positive and supportive training environment to enhance players' mental resilience.
- Communication:
- Maintain open and effective communication with players, parents, and coaching staff regarding progress and goals.
- Collaborate with the head coach to integrate strength and conditioning into the overall soccer training plan.
- Documentation:
- Keep detailed records of each player's progress, including fitness assessments, training plans, and performance metrics. Share them with the FFA sporting director and executive director.
- Continual
Education:- Stay updated on the latest trends and research in strength and conditioning, sports science, and soccer‑specific training techniques.
- Pursue relevant certifications and attend workshops or conferences to improve coaching skills.
- Safety:
- Ensure the safety of players during training sessions, including the proper use of equipment and monitoring for signs of over training or fatigue.
- Compliance:
- Adhere to any relevant regulations or guidelines set by governing bodies, leagues, or organizations overseeing youth soccer programs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Performance, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), NASM‑PES, or equivalent nationally recognized certification.
- Experience working with youth athletes, preferably in a soccer or team sport environment.
- Strong understanding of youth physical development principles, including growth and maturation considerations.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends according to the club’s training and competition schedule.
- Commitment to safeguarding and child protection standards; must pass background checks and complete required training.
