Job Description & How to Apply Below
Senior Motor Rewinder Middleton | Full-time, Permanent | £40,000–£46,000 per year, depending on experience The role We are looking for an experienced Senior Motor Rewinder who knows the trade inside out and can take ownership of jobs from initial inspection through to completed repair and testing. You will be confident stripping down a burnt-out motor, diagnosing the fault, assessing the work required, pricing the job accurately and carrying out a high-quality rewind.
This is a hands-on workshop role for someone with substantial experience in motor rewinding, a strong technical understanding and the initiative to keep work moving without constant supervision. We need someone who takes pride in their workmanship, understands the importance of turnaround times and can make sound technical and commercial decisions. If you are an experienced winder who wants to focus on engineering rather than unnecessary paperwork and management, this could be the right opportunity for you.
The job Strip, inspect and diagnose AC and DC electric motors, from fractional horsepower units to larger industrial motors. Rewind motors to their original specifications, accurately recording winding data throughout the process. Assess repair requirements and estimate labour, materials and processes, including copper, insulation, varnish, bearings and replacement components. Provide accurate technical assessments and repair estimates to support customer quotations.
Carry out appropriate electrical testing before and after repair, including insulation resistance, winding resistance, surge testing where required and operational run testing. Identify faults and, where possible, determine the underlying cause of motor failure. Advise whether equipment is suitable for repair or whether replacement would be more economical. Prioritise work to meet turnaround times for urgent breakdowns and planned repairs.
Maintain high standards of workmanship, health and safety and workshop organisation. Communicate clearly with colleagues and customers regarding faults, repair options and completion times. Support less experienced colleagues and share technical knowledge when required. What you must have Several years of hands-on motor rewinding experience in an industrial or electrical repair workshop. Strong knowledge of single-phase and three-phase AC motors, with DC motor experience desirable.
The ability to independently strip, inspect, diagnose, rewind, assemble and test motors. Experience estimating labour, materials and repair costs with confidence. A good understanding of winding data, electrical specifications and testing procedures. A methodical approach to fault-finding and problem-solving. The ability to make independent technical decisions and explain recommendations clearly. A proactive attitude, good time management and the ability to work without constant supervision.
A commitment to quality, safety and delivering work on time. The right to work in the UK. Useful but not essential Experience repairing industrial pumps, gearboxes, generators or fan assemblies. Relevant electrical or engineering qualifications, such as City & Guilds or equivalent. Knowledge of variable speed drives and motor control systems. Experience operating overhead cranes or forklifts. Experience working in a busy repair workshop handling urgent breakdowns.
A full UK driving licence. What you get Salary of £40,000–£46,000 per year , depending on experience. Full-time, permanent employment. Monday-to-Friday daytime working, with overtime available when required. A hands-on role where your technical knowledge and experience are valued. The opportunity to take ownership of repair work and make independent technical decisions. A supportive working environment with opportunities to contribute to the development of workshop operations.
Company pension. Free on-site parking. Store discount. Who we are looking for We want an experienced motor rewinder who can confidently take a job from initial assessment through to final testing. You will understand how to produce quality work, price repairs sensibly and balance efficiency with technical standards. You will be comfortable taking responsibility, working independently and helping ensure customers receive a reliable service.
If you have the experience, practical skills and drive to deliver high-quality motor repairs, we would like to hear from you.
