Position: Mechanical Engineer / Fitter
Location: Newark on Trent

Questech Recruitment are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Mechanical Engineer / Fitter to join a well-established manufacturing and processing business in the Newark area.

The Role

As a Mechanical Engineer / Fitter, you will work as part of a skilled maintenance team, ensuring all plant machinery, equipment, buildings, and infrastructure are maintained to the highest standards. The role is focused on maximising plant reliability, supporting production, and driving continuous improvement across the site.

Shift Pattern
  • 4 on, 4 off rotating days and nights
  • Average 43 hours per week
  • Applicants must be able to travel to the site location
Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with production teams to maximise plant availability and performance.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs.
  • Diagnose and rectify mechanical faults efficiently.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and new manufacturing methods.
  • Contribute to energy efficiency and cost‑saving projects.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company procedures and health & safety standards.
  • Complete maintenance records and statutory documentation accurately.
  • Utilise the site's CMMS maintenance system.
The Candidate
  • A mechanical engineering background with hands‑on maintenance experience.
  • Apprentice training (minimum Level 2 NVQ, City & Guilds, EAL or equivalent) desirable.
  • Manufacturing, industrial, process, production, recycling, food, FMCG, or heavy engineering experience.
  • Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to develop further through training.
