Principal Systems Engineer – Cloud Services

Overview
You will oversee Stanford Health Care's cloud infrastructure, managing deployment, optimization, and support of cloud-native applications and services to ensure high performance and security. The role supports initiatives related to modern application platforms, generative AI, machine learning, data engineering pipelines, Databricks environments, and Dev Ops frameworks. You will collaborate across departments to support cloud-based applications, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions to enhance the overall cloud environment.
What You Will Do
- Design, implement, and manage scalable cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS, GCP) for modern applications and AI/ML workloads.
- Create business cases for new technology solutions, including Generative AI initiatives, and collaborate with data engineering teams to improve pipelines and maintain Databricks environments.
- Enable and maintain CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) practices using tools such as Terraform, Git Hub Actions, or Azure Dev Ops.
- Provide technical support and promptly resolve cloud-related issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing preventive measures.
- Monitor cloud services for performance and security, applying tuning and optimization strategies.
- Ensure cloud environments comply with security policies and standards; implement firewalls, encryption, access controls.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts to streamline operations and reduce manual effort.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of configurations, procedures, and policies and generate usage, performance, and security reports.
Required Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
- Strong understanding of cloud services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) and modern application life cycles.
- Experience with generative AI model deployment and ML workflows.
- Deep knowledge of cloud security architecture, identity management, and compliance.
- Expertise in cloud networking (virtual networks, load balancing, DNS).
- Automation skills, including containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and Dev Ops practices.
- Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage projects, plan, execute, and monitor cloud initiatives.
Education Qualifications
- BS degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Business Management, Business Analytics, Business Administration, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
Experience Qualifications
- 7 years of progressively responsible, directly related experience (10 years preferred).
Licenses and Certifications (preferred):
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect
- Azure Solutions Architect Expert
- Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect
Employment Type – Full‑time
Seniority Level – Mid‑Senior Level
Base Pay Scale – Generally starting at $76.90–$101.91 per hour.
