Position OverviewThe Tax Manager plays a key leadership role within the firm, overseeing all aspects of tax engagements for a diverse portfolio of clients, including individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts, and non-profit organizations. This position combines technical expertise, people leadership, and client advisory responsibilities. The ideal candidate brings deep tax knowledge, strong communication skills, and a passion for developing staff and supporting clients with strategic planning and compliance.
Key ResponsibilitiesTax Compliance & Review
- Manage the preparation and review of complex federal, state, and local tax returns across multiple entity types.
- Ensure all filings are accurate, complete, and compliant with applicable tax laws.
- Research and resolve complex tax issues as they arise.
- Oversee tax deadlines, workflows, and engagement timelines to ensure timely delivery.
- Provide proactive, strategic tax planning tailored to each client’s unique goals and financial situation.
- Advise clients on the tax implications of business transactions, mergers, acquisitions, and estate planning.
- Represent clients during IRS and state tax audits, responding to inquiries and guiding them through the examination process.
- Supervise, mentor, and train tax staff, offering ongoing guidance and feedback.
- Review staff-prepared work papers and tax returns for accuracy and adherence to firm standards.
- Contribute to performance reviews and support professional development initiatives.
Client Relationship Management
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, ensuring responsive and high-quality service.
- Develop and maintain strong, trust-based client relationships through regular communication.
- Identify and recommend opportunities to expand the scope of services for existing clients.
Firm Operations & Business Development
- Participate in business development efforts and support strategies to attract new clients.
- Stay current on evolving tax regulations and share relevant updates with clients and team members.
- Assist in refining firm policies, procedures, and tax practice workflows.
- Leverage tax software and technology to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Taxation required;
Master’s in Taxation (MST) or JD/LL.M. in Taxation preferred. - Active CPA license required.
- 5–7+ years of progressive public accounting experience with a strong focus on taxation.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex engagements, lead teams, and communicate effectively with clients.
- Proficiency with tax software and Microsoft Office suite; comfort learning new technologies.
