Simulation Technology Specialist at Christiana Care
Pay range: $85,862.40/yr - $/yr
Primary FunctionThe Simulation Technology Specialist will be responsible for managing and administering the technology (software and hardware) used in the Virtual Education and Simulation (VEST) Center. The role includes advising faculty, VEST Center administration, and instructional support staff on best practices for the integration of technology in simulation education, maintaining and upgrading department software and hardware, and developing simulation technology.
Shift- 7a-3:30p or 7:30-4p
- Primarily Monday–Friday, very little weekend commitment
- No holiday shifts
- Act as expert user and trainer of all simulators (high and low fidelity) and associated software.
- Act as technical expert in IT and in the use of Learning Management systems.
- Act as expert in sophisticated virtual and/or conference capabilities.
- Manage preventive maintenance of simulation equipment according to manufacturers’ recommendations; monitor scheduled maintenance, coordinate with vendors to minimize downtime.
- Prepare documentation and informational manuals for non‑technical users.
- Install hardware provided by equipment and software suppliers.
- Direct hardware and software updates from suppliers.
- Demonstrate and teach technical aspects of operating simulators to faculty and staff.
- Oversee inventory of all simulation equipment.
- Assist and advise management on procurement of hardware, software and A/V equipment—including cost, installation and use, software modification, and user education, training and orientation.
- Provide technical recommendations for simulation improvements.
- Analyze and resolve IT user problems.
- Collaborate with Simulation Center staff to fulfill duties as needed, including:
- Programming patient care simulators.
- Setting up, operating, and manipulating patient care simulators and related media and computer equipment.
- Operating instructional media equipment such as video cameras, multimedia computer systems, and A/V distribution systems used in the Simulation Centers.
- Receive, set up, and test new simulators and related multimedia and computer equipment.
- Diagnose serious equipment malfunctions and arrange for repair; coordinate general maintenance and repair of simulation centers.
- Maintain maximum efficiency of operating equipment using available resources.
- Maintain proficiency in emerging simulation technologies, engineering advances, and simulation theory/design/implementation through self‑education, networking and participation in national meetings.
- Operate manikins as needed for simulation sessions.
- Shadow clinical health professionals to maintain medical knowledge base.
- Attend one approved simulation conference per year or complete four approved web‑based simulation education modules.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Frequent contact with employees, visitors, medical staff, students, personnel of community and state agencies, suppliers, press, government officials, and the general public.
Direction/ Supervision of OthersSupervise and train Simulation Center staff and education facilitators on simulation equipment (software and hardware) as needed.
Direction/ Supervision ReceivedDirectly reports to the Simulation Specialist Coordinator and Simulation Education Coordinator.
Education and Experience Requirements- B.S. degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering (biomechanical or mechanical); M.S. degree preferred.
- Minimum of one year of experience in a healthcare environment and/or knowledge of healthcare operations.
- Proficient with computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to simulator functions.
- Proficient in use of audio/visual equipment (video cameras, monitors, microphones), including recording, duplication, and editing.
- Ability to assess, troubleshoot, and fix equipment problems in a timely manner.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Self‑motivated and able to work independently.
- Knowledge of patient simulation education, technologies, and applications.
