We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to join our state-of-the-art Immerse Delaware Lab at the University of Delaware’s Science, Technology and Advanced Research (STAR) Campus. , working with access to the latest small- and large-scale bioreactors, analytical instrumentation, and bioanalytical tools. Together, we’re uncovering new trends and opportunities in bioprocess monitoring, control, and analytical characterization of biologics and novel modalities.

This role reports to the Global Research Organization at Waters and offers the opportunity to leverage your technical expertise, creativity, and curiosity to help bring the next generation of bioprocessing innovations to life.
ResponsibilitiesThe meaningful work you will do:
- Collaborate with cell culture scientists to develop advanced analytical workflows, novel sensors/probes, and predictive models to address challenges in process optimization, monitoring, and control.
- Evaluate protein stability, variants, and glycan profiles. Apply and optimize chromatographic and mass spectrometric techniques to analyze complex biological samples and troubleshoot analytical challenges.
- Design and execute PoC studies, analyze data, and support bioprocess monitoring and analytical development.
- Support the design and implementation of PAT tools for real-time bioprocess control.
- Understand customer workflows and analytical needs to inform next-generation scientific instrumentation.
- Drive new scientific concepts and provide strategic input to R&D initiatives.
- Ph.D. in Analytical Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biochemistry, or Biomedical Engineering, or
- Master’s with 3+ years, or Bachelor’s with 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Hands‑on experience in chromatography, protein characterization, and mass spectrometry (e.g., quadrupole, TOF, ion trap).
- Strong experimental design and data interpretation skills supporting upstream bioprocess development.
- Proficient in SDS-PAGE, ELISA, Western Blot, qPCR, DLS, IEF, and CE.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem‑solving ability.
- Excellent organizational, teamwork, and communication skills.
- Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently on R&D projects.
- Occasional travel to headquarters (Massachusetts) and customer sites.
- Experience in mAb upstream bioprocess development (expression, purification, production).
- Familiarity with lab automation and robotic sample‑prep systems.
- Proficiency with Waters Empower™ and Waters Connect™ software.
- Knowledge of DoE, regression modeling, PCA, and predictive analytics for process optimization.
