You’ll be responsible for the repairs, maintenance, and upkeep of the hotel's systems, equipment, and public spaces in line with brand standards. The Engineer will be responsible for upkeep, preventative maintenance and troubleshooting with ice machines, refrigeration units, and air handling units, as well as other general maintenance, in accordance with the standards of Shaner Hotels and the respective franchises. The ideal applicant will be customer service oriented and willing to go the extra mile to make the guest experience one to remember.
Full‑time position with benefits. Evening, weekend, and holiday hours may be required.
Key responsibilities include:
- Receive and complete daily work orders and preventive maintenance tasks
- Operate, maintain, and repair HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Perform carpentry, painting, and general property repairs (doors, locks, furniture, cabinetry)
- Maintain pool equipment, perform water tests, and ensure chemical balance
- Safely operate tools, equipment, and chemicals according to OSHA and hotel guidelines
- Assist with laundry/kitchen equipment maintenance and special projects as needed
- Provide shuttle transportation for guests when scheduled
- Ensure all areas meet health, safety, and fire code compliance
- Support a clean, safe, and secure environment for guests and associates
- Be available to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and varied shifts.
- Handle guest complaints ensuring guest satisfaction
- Maintains standards of quality and cleanliness throughout daily assignments
- Observes all house and safety rules, departmental procedures, and security procedures
- Assist with inventories as scheduled
- Follow maintenance program and cleaning schedule
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years' experience in commercial maintenance (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or plant operations)
- Working knowledge of building codes, schematics, mechanical/electrical systems, all mechanical equipment critical to the operation of the building
- Knowledge of proper chemical handling and disposal
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physically demanding tasks (climb, kneel, crawl)
- Strong communication skills (written & verbal)
- Ability to prioritize tasks and comply with deadlines for work assignments.
- Ability to interact positively with hotel personnel and provide prompt solutions to problems.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Trade licenses/certifications (plumbing, electrical, HVAC)
- Serv Safe or OSHA training
- Previous hospitality or guest‑facing experience
- Detail‑oriented with a "find it, fix it" mentality
- Works well independently with minimal supervision
- Stays calm and resourceful in emergencies
- Maintains professionalism and confidentiality
