PRIMARY FUNCTIONPerforms skilled work in the installation, repair and maintenance of heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment and systems.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Operates, maintains, and repairs all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment which includes steam and hot water heating systems, chilled water and direct expansion cooling systems.
- Operates, maintains, and repairs ice machines, packaged refrigerators/freezers, walk-in refrigerators/freezers and other cooling and refrigeration equipment.
- Operates and maintains pneumatic/electronic temperature/humidity control systems which include thermostats, valves, dampers, transmitters, controllers, switches, and sensors.
- Operates and maintains chillers for comfort or process cooling systems which include the associated cooling towers.
- Answers complaints about equipment operation, temperature, and/or humidity in all areas of the hospital and responds to emergency situations such as power failures and fire alarms to restore equipment.
- Takes responsibility for always maintaining a clean and safe work area.
- Follows all applicable safety procedures in the performance of job responsibilities.
- Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.

Daily contact with patients, visitors, and staff while working with HVAC and refrigeration problems and frequent contact with contractors and vendors involved in small and large construction projects.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSHigh School graduate or equivalent.
Four years relevant HVAC experience and must possess one of the following:
- Journeyman Certification
- Master HVACR License
- Minimum 10 years Military experience within HVAC/R Role (must provide DD214 with resume)
Hospital experience preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTSKnowledge of heat exchange principles, typical HVAC equipment and various types of controls
Knowledge of CCHS policies and procedures
Prioritize workload and solve problems independently
Knowledge of procedures prescribed by shop and vendor manuals
Skill in solving mechanical and analytical problems
Skill in oral and written communication
Skill in operating all types of hand and power tools and electrical test equipment (i.e. screwdrivers, pliers, pipe wrenches, drills, saws, grinders, hand torches, oxy-acetylene torches, volt ohm-ammeters, etc.)
Ability to troubleshoot steam, mechanical, electrical, electronic, and pneumatic problems
Must be able to hear and orally communicate on the telephone and two-way radio system
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSMust maintain EPA certification for working with CFC, HCFC, HFC Refrigerants Level I (small appliances, 5 pounds refrigerant or less) and Level II (High Pressure and very high-pressure appliances) under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act. Universal EPA certification preferred.
Must obtain Respiratory Medical Clearance and must be able to wear a Half Face Air Purifying Respirator or Power Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR)
PHYSICAL DEMANDSWalking, lifting, bending, stooping, reaching and climbing. Minimum lifting requirement of 75lbs.
Must have manual dexterity and visual acuity to manipulate equipment and supplies. Must have complete unrestricted physical mobility to access the entire facility and related properties. Must be able to assume positions, such as standing, climbing, bending or stooping for long periods of time. Must be able to hear and orally communicate on the telephone and two-way radio system.
WORKING CONDITIONSExposure to oils, grease, hot surfaces, chemical fumes, soot, dust, dirt, extreme heat, cold, and noise. Exposure to burns, scalds, eye and ear hazards, and falls. Exposure to cramped and confined areas, and danger of infection.
