POSITION SUMMARY

The Wastewater Maintenance Mechanic / Master Electrician serves as the department’s senior electrical authority and is responsible for the design, installation, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and inspection of complex electrical and mechanical systems supporting the company’s wastewater treatment and disposal facilities, as well as pump station conveyance infrastructure. This position performs advanced electrical work pump stations, treatment facility power distribution systems, motor control centers (MCCs), generators, VFDs, PLCs, SCADA systems, and instrumentation while also performing advanced mechanical maintenance on pumps, motors, actuator valves, and associated equipment.

The Master Electrician provides technical leadership for electrical projects, ensures compliance with applicable electrical codes and safety standards, assists in planning capital improvements, and serves as the primary resource for diagnosing complex electrical system failures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as the department’s technical expert for all electrical systems associated with wastewater treatment and disposal systems, as well as pump station conveyance operations.
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and upgrade electrical distribution systems, pump and treatment process control panels, switch gear, MCCs, transformers, and related infrastructure.
  • Design, modify, and improve electrical systems in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and Company standards.
  • Troubleshoot and repair complex electrical failures involving pumps, motors, VFDs, PLCs, SCADA equipment, generators, automatic transfer switches, and instrumentation.
  • Perform advanced diagnostics using electrical testing equipment and system monitoring software.
  • Install, configure, and maintain VFDs, motor starters, protective relays, and control systems.
  • Assist with PLC programming modifications and SCADA integration in coordination with automation personnel.
  • Maintain emergency power generators, and emergency electrical equipment.
  • Schedule and coordinate annual load bank testing of critical emergency generators.
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on electrical and mechanical assets.
  • Repair, rebuild, and install pumps, motors, valves, piping systems, bearings, seals, and rotating equipment.
  • Review electrical plans and specifications for construction and capital improvement projects.
  • Provide technical guidance to Journeyman Electricians, mechanics, contractors, and operations personnel.
  • Inspect contractor electrical work for quality and code compliance.
  • Recommend equipment replacements, upgrades, and system improvements to improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Develop electrical maintenance procedures and preventive maintenance standards.
  • Maintain electrical documentation, panel schedules, one-line diagrams, and equipment records.
  • Coordinate electrical shutdowns and startup activities during planned maintenance and emergency repairs.
  • Assist with project planning, equipment procurement, technical evaluations and updating assistance with the Engineering Department for the wastewater electrical standards manuals.
  • Maintain maintenance records and work orders using the Company’s CMMS.
  • Respond to emergency electrical failures, power outages, lift station failures, and storm-related incidents.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, NEC requirements, NFPA 70E, Lockout/Tagout procedures, confined space regulations, and Company safety policies.
  • Assist in training maintenance personnel on electrical safety, troubleshooting techniques, and proper maintenance practices.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
