Peer Advisor Liaison (Student Employment)
New Jersey Institute of Technology invites applications for the Peer Advisor Liaison role. The position is open to current undergraduate students, with a posting date of 3 days ago and a competitive application window for the first 25 applicants.
Position Details- Department: Office of Academic Advising
- Reports to: Frans Moncayo, frans.moncayo
- Hours per week: 3–5
- Employment Period: Academic Year
- Pay Rate: $15.49 per hour
- Current NJIT undergraduate student
- Minimum of 24 credits earned by the end of Spring 2024 (preferred 60 credits)
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 and in “Good Standing” at NJIT; dropping below 2.5 may lead to termination
- Full‑time student status while working as a PAL
- One‑year commitment to the position
- Available for virtual interviews via Google Meet and for work hours each semester
- Preferred: work‑study eligible students
- Arrive on time for scheduled office hours, first‑year seminar (FYS) classes, P.A.C.E seminars, OAA events, and meetings with supervisors and students
- Respond to student concerns, triage needs, and make appropriate referrals
- Schedule appointments for students with academic advisors and educate them on the appointment‑making process
- Complete projects, collateral assignments, and tasks efficiently, providing follow‑up support after advising appointments
- Assist walk‑in students during office hours and co‑lead assigned FYS courses with an OAA advisor
- Perform administrative duties including data entry on spreadsheets, copying, marketing flyer creation, and resource document updates
- Host or co‑host developmental workshops and seminars for peers (stress relief, study habits, communication styles, professionalism, etc.)
- Participate in a PAL committee (Social Media, Tabling/Social Events, Community Service, Workshop) and a community‑service event each semester
- Attend 1–2 weekend Open House events per semester (compensation provided)
- Other duties assigned by the PALs Coordinator
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Efficient use of technology
- Positive attitude, self‑motivated, and strong problem‑solving abilities
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to stay focused
- Knowledge of campus resources (e.g., tutoring centers, C‑CAPs, Dean of Students)
- Willingness to provide immediate academic and campus support to students
