Qualifications and Requirements
- An appropriate New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, Certificate of Eligibility (CE), or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) as required.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (preferred).
Basic Functions and Responsibilities
- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Evaluate student progress regularly and prepare progress reports.
- Instruct pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study common to all teachers, as specified in state law and district procedures.
- Provide individual, small‑group, and large‑group instruction to adapt the curriculum to pupils with varying intellectual and special abilities.
- Instruct pupils in proper care and use of textbooks, equipment, and materials.
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive environment.
- Select and requisition books, instructional materials, equipment, aids, and maintain required inventory records.
- Develop instructional plans and organize class time to provide a balanced program of instruction.
- Develop and maintain professional competence through participation in in‑service education activities and self‑selected professional growth activities.
- Supervise out‑of‑classroom activities for pupils during the assigned working day, as required.
- Plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants, and other paraprofessionals.
- Identify pupils’ needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Communicate with parents and pupil personnel staff members on the individual pupil’s progress and development.
- Maintain attendance accounting and business services as required.
- Develop and participate in the sponsorship of student activities and faculty committees.
- Act as a resource person on an interdepartmental level to relate the subject area to other subjects.
- Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
- Perform other duties and tasks assigned by a supervisor.
