Qualifications And Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
- A New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, Certificate of Eligibility (CE), or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) in Spanish.
- Possession of a current and valid teaching certificate in the appropriate subject/content area issued by the New Jersey Department of Education.

- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
Basic Functions And Responsibilities
- Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Evaluates student progress on a regular basis and prepares progress reports.
- Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study as specified in state law and district regulations.
- Provides individual, small, and/or large group instruction, adapting the curriculum to students with varying abilities.
- Instructs pupils in proper care and use of textbooks, equipment, and materials.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to ensure an orderly environment.
- Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials, equipment, aids, and maintains inventory records.
- Develops instructional plans and organizes class time for a balanced program.
- Develops and maintains professional competence through participation in in-service and professional growth activities.
- Supervises out-of-classroom activities during the workday, as required.
- Plans and coordinates work of aides, assistants, and paraprofessionals.
- Identifies pupil needs and collaborates with staff to address health, attitude, and learning issues.
- Communicates with parents and pupil personnel staff regarding student progress.
- Maintains attendance and business records as required.
- Participates in sponsoring student activities and faculty committees.
- Acts as a resource to relate subject area knowledge across departments.
- Establishes and maintains communication with students and parents about academic and behavioral progress.
REPORTS TO: PRINCIPAL
SALARY, TERMS & AFFILIATION
- Salary: $67,000 - $111,625 (for SY 25-26)
- Employment Period:
Ten (10) Months - Union Affiliation:
Newark Teacher’s Union (NTU) - Salary may change pending NTU contract negotiations.
