MATH TUTOR - METCS

Chairperson of Mathematics, Engineering Technologies & Computer Sciences

$27.00 per hour

Under the supervision of the Chairperson of Mathematics, Engineering Technologies & Computer Sciences or designee, the Math Tutor will assist the MTH 0905/100 professor by providing both in‑class and outside‑of‑class support to students in order to improve overall class academic performance.

Essex County College does not provide visa sponsorship. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of application and for the duration of employment.

• Attend all class sessions held in the lab to support students while they are completing individual class work or small group work assigned by the professor.
• Be available in class to provide one‑on‑one assistance to any student who needs supplemental help during the professor’s lecture.
• Be available outside‑of‑class for an additional scheduled number of hours each week to tutor students either in a one‑on‑one or small group format.
• Perform other related duties as required.

• Use strength to lift items needed to perform the functions of the job.
• Sit, stand, and walk/move from place to place for required periods of time.
• Move between buildings.
• Speak and hear, communicate using telephone and/or walkie‑talkie.
• Use close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
• Communicate effectively in English, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
• Reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools, including but not limited to computers, keyboards, telephones, calculators, and controls.
• Bend, twist, climb, push, pull, and lift.

• ECC student or recent graduate in a STEM major with strong mathematics skills.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment at all times.
• Demonstrated knowledge of computer skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment.
• Major in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science or related area.
• One or more years experience as a tutor or teaching assistant.
