The J. Robert and Barbara

A. Hillier College of Architecture and Design (HCAD) at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track (Assistant Professor) or teaching-focused (Lecturer) appointment in Digital Design. Candidates should have a clear research agenda and/or accomplished creative work and will be expected to pursue this work through scholarly activities such as publishing papers, presenting at conferences, and/or creating internationally recognized and award-winning creative works.

This may include, but is not limited to, the following areas of evidence-based design methodologies:
Innovative narrative and visualization technologies, such as game design and development, UI/UX, XR, AI, HCI, VFX, physical computing, or digital media and theory to teach design studio, lecture, and/or seminar courses to undergraduate and graduate students. Agendas relating to NJIT’s strategic plan are welcome, and interdisciplinary collaborative practices are encouraged. Candidates should hold a terminal degree in the field from an accredited program, and a proven record of excellence in teaching, research, and/or creative practice is required.

Essential Functions:
  • Have a clear research agenda related to their design and creative work.
  • Pursue this agenda through scholarly activities such as publishing papers, presenting at conferences, and/or creating internationally recognized and award-winning creative works. Agendas relating to NJIT’s strategic plan are welcome, and interdisciplinary collaborative practices are highly encouraged.
  • Teach courses and studios in Digital Design.
  • Participate in service activities within HCAD and NJIT, as well as within their profession and/or discipline.
Prerequisite

Qualifications:
  • Hold a terminal degree in the field from an accredited program, or its equivalent, such as M.F.A. or Ph.D.
  • A proven record of excellence in teaching, research, and/or creative practice.
  • Expertise may originate in many creative academic or professional areas.
  • At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
Bargaining Unit:

Salary Information:

In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, if the incumbent is hired as an Assistant Professor the starting salary for this position is $85,000.00; if hired as a University Lecturer, the starting salary for this position is $65,000.00. NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
