Overview
Rutgers University‑Newark (RU‑N) is seeking a temporary, part‑time Career Counselor in the Center for Career Development (CDC) to support the law school’s career services. The role will assist the two career counselors in outreach, data collection, and student support until additional counselors are hired.
Responsibilities- Conduct outreach to Class of 2025 graduates
- Gather and assess employment outcomes based on ABA guidelines
- Enter information in Excel spreadsheets and submit employment data to Symplicity graduate reports
- Assist in compiling data for tables and charts
- Review and update guides, timelines, and additional web materials
- Correspond with students and faculty regarding faculty letters of recommendation
- Process clerkship‑related paperwork – recommender agreement forms, letters of recommendation
- Format and proofread faculty letters of recommendation
- Create PDFs of individualized letters for applications to the NJ Supreme Court and Appellate Division
- Counsel JD students to facilitate summer and post‑graduate employment
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Up to two years relevant experience in an administrative function, with strong communication and interpersonal skills and computer literacy
- Minimum of two (2) years of counseling, career services or marketing experience, preferably in a law school environment
- Ability to aggressively market the law school to attorneys, recruiters and other legal professionals and employers
- Exemplary judgment and independent decision‑making within defined practices and procedures
- Exemplary administrative, analytical, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, with excellent oral and written proficiency
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with office equipment, software and specialized programs needed for this position

- In‑depth knowledge of legal environments and legal practice experience
$35–$44 per hour

Hybrid work arrangement may be eligible under Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, a pilot program effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent and are subject to change.
