The Opportunity
  • Design of Plumbing and Fire Protection systems within the built environment, with an emphasis on sustainable design

  • Support designing plumbing systems such as domestic water, sanitary/vent, and storm systems

  • Support designing fire protection systems fire sprinkler and standpipe systems

  • Collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, and consultants to develop integrated solutions for complex buildings

  • Undertaking and documenting engineering analysis work, including code research, load calculations, and equipment sizing, in a clear manner

  • Document system design in Revit MEP

  • Communicate technical ideas to a broad range of audiences using various formats, including presentations and workshops

  • Write reports documenting calculation methods and results, design assumptions, and other technical information

  • The ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work and exceptional organization skills required for our changing environment

  • Influence with design on sustainable outcome for our clients to align with Arup sustainability commitment

  • Assisting in construction administration activities such as site visits and submittal reviews

Is this role right for you?

Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical, architectural, civil, or environmental engineering

  • Coursework in fluid hydraulics/piping/fluid dynamics

  • Shown interest in the built environment and sustainable development

  • Ability to collaborate with clients

  • Good time management habits, ability to multi-task, ability to sustain focus on long tasks

  • Ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible way

  • Attitude of taking initiative, enthusiasm, eagerness to learn, teamwork, creativity

  • Ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work and exceptional organization skills required for our changing environment

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills needed for team-based working

  • Presentation skills with colleagues and clients of all levels

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future.

Preferred:
  • EIT/ FE certification

  • Membership in ASPE, ASSE, ASHRAE, NFPA, or SFPE

  • Courses in sustainability or USGBC participation

  • Revit or 3D modeling experience

  • Internship experience in engineering-related firm or evidence of extracurricular activity in the field

  • Shown ability to perform in a paid work environment with intermittent supervision

  • Past history of technical presentations and technical writing

  • Computer programming languages (e.g., Dynamo, Python, Grasshopper)
