Early Career Mechanical Engineer – Mount Laurel, NJ (also considered Oradell, Newark)
WSP is embarking on a search for an Early Career Mechanical Engineer who will work with our Power & Energy Team and contribute to projects that support our clients’ objectives and solve their challenges. YourImpact
- Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to support project development, design, and construction.
- Perform basic professional mechanical engineering work including research and inspections of site conditions, equipment and mechanical systems to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards and permits.
- Provide entry‑level technical assistance on design requirements, load calculations and operating strategies to ensure proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems according to specifications.
- Verify site characteristics and provide basic technical assistance on engineering, design and construction issues.
- Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation and specifications using electronic systems, drawings and field logs.
- Comply with safety guidelines, site procedures and engineering studies and surveys.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
- 0 to 1 year of post‑education experience.
- Excellent research skills and analytical mindset.
- Familiarity with design/build processes and mechanical system laws, codes and compliance practices.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Self‑leadership, attention to detail, multi‑tasking and prioritization.
- Independent work under general supervision and team collaboration.
- Basic technical writing, office automation and spreadsheet proficiency.
- Familiarity with discipline‑specific design software (AutoCAD, CAM).
- Track record of workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety and policy.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project requirements (may extend beyond typical workweek).
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Engineer in Training certification.
- Prior internship related to the degree of study and discipline.
- Active participation in local professional practice organizations.

CompensationExpected Salary (all locations): $56,300 - $92,900
