Operator III – Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission

Position Summary: Responsible for assisting in the operation of one or more processes pertaining to the treatment of wastewater and biosolids.

Assist in the operation of wastewater and biosolids treatment processes. Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, rules, and regulations. Employ occupational safety precautions during the conveyance of wastewater. Demonstrate the ability to learn and retain technical information. Perform mechanical and problem‑solving tasks as required. Maintain computer literacy to handle operational data and documentation.

Requirements: Must have knowledge of the principles and methods used in the treatment and disposal of wastewater and biosolids, and understand related laws, rules, and regulations. Must understand occupational hazards involved and safety precautions required in wastewater conveyance. Must demonstrate mechanical and problem‑solving aptitude and computer literacy. Must be able to read, write, communicate, and understand English sufficiently to perform the functions of the position and execute oral and written directions.

Experience, Licenses and

Certifications:

Minimum five (5) years’ experience in a wastewater treatment facility and a New Jersey Treatment Plant S1 license are required. A New Jersey C1 Collections Systems license and a valid New Jersey Driver's License are preferred.

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required. Satisfactory completion of both the Basic and Advanced Wastewater Treatment courses is required. Completion of the Advanced Wastewater Collections course is preferred.

Must be able to perform essential functions with or without accommodations. Must qualify for entry into confined spaces while wearing proper PPE such as masks and SCBA. Must perform physical activities requiring arms, legs, and whole body use, including climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs., balancing, walking, stooping, and handling heavy objects.

Workers are employed in conditions associated with a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system, requiring both indoor and outdoor work.

The expected base pay range is $76,950 to $96,332. Compensation may vary based on experience, qualifications, education, training, and credentials.
