Environmental Engineer, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Position Summary
Responsible for assisting in the operation of one or more processes pertaining to the collection or treatment of wastewater and biosolids.
Minimum RequirementsMust have knowledge of the principles and methods used in the collection, treatment, and disposal of wastewater and biosolids. Must understand and comprehend the laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to the collection, treatment, and disposal of wastewater and biosolids. Must be knowledgeable in the occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in the conveyance of wastewater, and demonstrate the ability to learn and retain technical information.
Mechanical and/or problem‑solving aptitude and computer literacy are required. Must be able to read, write, communicate and understand English sufficiently to perform the functions of the position and execute oral and written directions.
Valid New Jersey Driver’s License is preferred but not required. Minimum seven years of experience in a wastewater treatment facility. A New Jersey Treatment Plant S2 license is required, or the applicant must be actively pursuing an S2 license. New Jersey C2 collections system license is preferred. Actively pursuing is defined as taking the associated state license exam at least two times per year until the license is obtained.
EducationHigh School Diploma or equivalency certificate required. Completion of both the Basic and Advanced Wastewater Treatment courses is preferred.
Physical DemandsAbility to perform the essential functions of the position, including entry into confined spaces while wearing proper PPE (personal protective equipment such as canister and dust masks, and SCBA). Perform physical activities requiring considerable use of arms, legs, and whole body: climbing (including ladders), lifting up to 50 lbs., balancing, walking, stooping, and handling heavy objects.
Working ConditionsWork is conducted in conditions associated with a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system, and employees may work indoors and outdoors. All applicants meet the NJ First Act residency requirements.
PayThe expected base pay range is $94,465 to $118,020. Salary may be influenced by relevant experience, qualifications, education, training, and credentials.
