The primary purpose of the Paramedic position is to provide and direct pre-hospital Basic and Advanced Life Support (BLS, ALS) in all weather conditions, in concert with other EMS employees and as a member of the patient care team under the direction of a licensed Medical Control Physician (MCP) and under the supervision of an EMS Supervisor. The role involves caring for patients of all ages and populations who experience serious illness or injury, using appropriate equipment and techniques to assess, treat, lift, move, and transport patients to medical facilities.
The Paramedic is also responsible for completing documentation, supporting EMS operations, and representing UH and EMS professionally and positively.
Candidates must have at least two (2) years of EMS experience and two (2) years of EMS driving experience with a good driving record. Preferred qualifications include completion of CEVO training, possession of a PHTLS or BTLS provider card, and bilingual skills in English and Spanish. The candidate must pass a medical evaluation and respirator fit test, and be able to wear an N95 mask as per PEOSHA standards.
Experience with electronic medical records is preferred. Necessary credentials include active, valid certification as a NJ MICN or NJ MICN Nurse, with specific requirements for reciprocity applicants and ongoing certification maintenance. A valid NJ driver’s license is also required.
Required certifications include AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers, ACLS, PALS or PEPP-A, ICS Level 100 or higher, NIMS Awareness, and Hazardous Materials and CBRNE/WMD Awareness or higher. Primary source verification will be conducted through designated agencies. The candidate must be in excellent physical condition, capable of performing physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 125 lbs., and able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
