Job Overview:The Director of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) gives administrative direction and has oversight of the clinical practice, operational, financial, and professional development for APPs (NP, PA, CRNA, midwife) at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (NBI).
The Director is responsible for the vision, strategy, direction, and performance of various domains to include: administration and leadership, workforce planning and utilization, scope of practice and regulatory oversight, ambulatory and inpatient clinical practice, professional performance, development/training and other programs, and processes central to support APPs.
In partnership with physician, nursing and operational leaders, the Director provides leadership to meet the hospital strategies, goals, and performance targets and APP workforce needs.
The Director reports to the Chief Medical Officer with a matrixed relationship to the Chief Nursing Officer, and RWJBarnabas Health System Vice President of Advanced Practice Providers; in addition, the Director works cross-functionally with other clinical departments and leaders across RWJBarnabas Health (RWJBH).
In addition to the above responsibilities, the Director may collaborate on broader workforce development issues for both APPs and physicians as assigned by NBI leadership. These may include workforce planning for APPs/MDs/Trainees, program development for certain clinical areas and clinical team development for all providers.
Approximately 50% of the Director position is devoted to administrative duties and 50% is devoted to maintaining a clinical practice within his/her specialty area.
Leadership:- Incorporates RWJBH's vision, missions and values in goals and programs within Advanced Practice Providers
- Provides oversight, mentorship, and guidance to departmental APP leaders
- Provides an experience and environment of patient- and family-centered care amongst NBI APPs
- Develops and manages operational initiatives with measurable outcomes
- Formulates objectives, goals and strategies collaboratively with other hospital stakeholders
- Provide APP leadership on continuous process improvement and maintain a culture of quality and safety using principles of High Reliability
- Prepares and delivers reports to NBI leadership outlining progress toward meeting annual goals and objectives, including progress related to clinical activity, quality, safety, and financial stewardship
- Continually assesses all services, identify problems, utilize data to analyze and propose innovative approaches for solutions
- Engage staff and other stakeholders in continuous improvement of systems and processes
- Innovates, leads and supports APPs to practice at the top of their license and develops new models of health care delivery and value-based care
- Maintains current and in-depth knowledge of a rapidly changing health care environment and national APP workforce demands, strategically integrating this knowledge into NBI / RWJBH strategies, business functions and resource management
- Develops and implements innovative systems and processes that improve staff and patient quality and safety
- Supports departmental APP leads to implements clinical outcome measures for quality improvement, cost and complication reduction, and the implementation of evidence-based medicine
- Assures departmental-level compliance with OPPE/FPPE and Performance Appraisal evaluations in timely manner for APPs
- Effectively facilitates meetings at the Advanced Practice Provider and organizational levels
- Creates bi-directional systems that effectively communicate information and data to APP staff'
