UPA-DCMC Neurosurgery is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to perform routine clinical and clerical tasks under the direction of a physician or other health practitioner. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs, medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, processing prescription refills, and assisting with minor procedures as directed by a physician or health practitioner. The CMA acts as a practice ambassador, contributing to overall patient experience, safety, and privacy.
QualificationsRequired:
- High School Diploma or GED
- One year of CMA experience
Preferred:
- Training in Neurosurgical Department assisting a plus
- Knowledge of electronic medical record (EMR) systems
- BLS Certification approved by the American Heart Association
- Medical Assistant Certification: AAMA, AECA, AMCA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, NCMA, or NHA
- 8:30am - 5:00pm
- Monday - Friday
- Full-Time
- Clinical Support
- Travels to outside locations when needed
- Performs patient education when appropriate
- Replenish supplies stocks and cleans exam rooms
- Takes Proper Vitals on each individual patient seen
- Schedules tests and off-site procedures when necessary
- Directs lab results to physician for review and treatment plan
- Disposes of contaminated items according to OSHA guidelines
- Patient registration and front desk coverage using EPIC EMR 1
- Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments
- Communicates physician referral requests to referral staff for processing
- Takes medical stock inventory and communicates supply shortages to Manager
- Ensures that laboratory samples are picked up by the reference laboratory daily
- Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization
- Greets patients and escorts them from the waiting room to exam rooms; prepares patients for exam or treatment
- Prepares blood samples for transport to reference lab using centrifuge completes appropriate requisition paperwork for processing and billing of blood specimens
- Responsible for procedure or medical test procedure authorizations and scheduling, including authorizing services, assisting the patient in scheduling those services, and obtaining reports and medical notes for the attending physicians' review
- Other duties as assigned
