Pre-Sales Systems Engineer, Commercial – NYC
Pure Storage is reshaping the data storage industry and we’re looking for a technically curious, customer‑focused systems engineer to partner with sales, guide customers through their data and infrastructure challenges, and translate complex technical concepts into clear business value.
The RoleAs a Commercial Pre‑Sales Systems Engineer you will partner closely with sales to help customers navigate technical evaluations, benchmark solutions, and system configurations. You will build and deliver compelling technical product and architecture presentations, maintain awareness of competitive offerings, and promote thought leadership within the organization.
What You’ll Do- Develop an understanding of what drives a customer’s business and motivates decision making.
- Connect the dots from technology solutions—including the Pure Storage portfolio and ecosystem partners—to measurable customer business outcomes.
- Partner with account managers, specialists, and channel partners to create a seamless, holistic customer experience and strategy that drives revenue growth.
- Take ownership of evaluations, benchmarks, and system configurations.
- Build and deliver dynamic technical product and architecture presentations that secure the technical win.
- Identify and spur new opportunities for interoperability, functional, and performance testing/validation.
- Promote mutual roadmap and planning exchanges with customers.
- Stay current with competition to ensure materials reflect differentiated solution positioning.
- Move with market trends and the competitive landscape to promote thought leadership within Pure.

Persistence, Creativity, Teamwork, Ownership, and Customer‑first. - Approach customer interactions with a consultative mindset—asking targeted questions to uncover requirements and align solutions to measurable business value.
- Pre‑sales experience is required.
- 3+ years of relevant experience across technology, design, and communications. Experience supporting enterprise storage, networking, systems, cloud, or software sales to commercial accounts is preferred.
- Rapid learning ability, absorption of complex concepts, and adaptation to evolving technologies and customer needs.
- Understanding of multi‑tiered client/server and web‑based computing solutions architecture.
- Familiarity with modern web architecture (LAMP, scale‑out vs scale‑up, AWS well‑architected framework, microservices) is a plus.
- Targeting new prospects and converting them into clients is required.
- Significant contributions to RFP, RFQ, and RFI responses.
- Experience with Linux, NFS file systems, and Linux distributed network environments.
- Installation and configuration of distributed computing, multiprocessing, virtual memory subsystems, storage subsystems, shared memory architectures, cache architectures, and windowing systems.
- Strong knowledge of digital transformation to cloud‑native architecture, on‑prem, public cloud, provisioning automation, and containers.
- Knowledge of VMware, local area networking, Ethernet, TCP/IP, and general networking.
- Curiosity and passion for explaining and showcasing new technology platforms to customers.
- Familiarity with storage‑intensive applications (structured databases such as SQL, Oracle) is highly desirable.
- Excellent verbal and written interpersonal skills.
