Position OverviewThe Defensive Immigration Paralegal works under a Senior Managing Paralegal, often the first point of contact with clients preparing cases for immigration courts. The role offers exposure to a range of cases and a foundation for a career in immigration law.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare relief forms (I‑589, 42A/B, I‑601, I‑485, etc.) for immigration court filings.
- Collect supporting evidence and conduct country‑conditions research.
- Complete affidavits with clients and witnesses.
- Prepare motions and exhibitions lists, and assemble exhibit packets for hearings.
- Manage e‑filing through ECAS for allowed cases.
- Interview and prepare clients for individual hearings.
- Maintain and update case‑management database.
- Schedule hearings, manage calendars, and set deadlines.
- Coordinate with Legal Assistant Team to ensure proper filing.
- Build effective working relationships and communicate with supervisors, attorneys, staff, and clients.
- Fluent in Spanish (reading, writing, speaking)
- High School Diploma/GED
- Ability to handle high volume work independently and in teams
- Comfortable in fast‑paced environments
- Strong communication skills
- Detail‑oriented and highly organized
- Eagerness to learn and accept new challenges
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- At least 1 year of work experience in immigration law
- Knowledge of Immigration Court procedures
- Experience with Salesforce, Filevine, SharePoint, and Zoom
- Working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Pro
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Associate’s degree in paralegal studies (ABA approved)
