A fully funded PhD position is available in a newly established robotics research group at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), USA, beginning Fall 2026.
The laboratory is led by Dr. Yufei Wu
, Assistant Professor in the School of Applied Engineering and Technology.
One PhD student will be recruited for the inaugural cohort. Since the application timeline for Fall 2026 is short, interested applicants are encouraged to contact us as soon as possible. Applicants interested in Spring 2027 or Fall 2027 are also welcome.
Research AreasThe research group focuses on robotics, autonomous systems, optimization, and control, including:
- Surgical and continuum robotics (modeling, planning, force sensing, and control)
- UAVs, autonomous aerial systems, and advanced air mobility
- Trajectory optimization, optimal control, and real-time numerical optimization
- Robot dynamics, motion planning, sensor integration, and experimental validation
Applicants should have a background in one of the following fields:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Robotics
- Mechatronics
- Electrical Engineering
- Computer Science
Experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable:
- Robot modeling, dynamics, planning, or control
- Numerical optimization or optimal control
- Python, C++, MATLAB, ROS, or ROS 2
- Mechanical design, embedded systems, sensors, or hardware experiments
- Medical robotics, continuum robotics, UAVs, or autonomous systems
A master's degree and research publications are preferred but not required.
Applicants interested in both theoretical research and hands-on robotic system development are especially encouraged to apply.
FundingSuccessful applicants are expected to receive full financial support through a Research Assistantship (RA), including tuition support and stipend, subject to admission and funding approval by NJIT.
