Job Title: Lead AS400 / Web Sphere EDI Developer
Location: Newark, NJ (On-site)
Employment Type: Contract (W2 through Zip Staff - No C2C or 1099)
Zip Staff is seeking a Lead Developer to own the AS400 core and Web Sphere EDI integrations at a major port and terminal operator.
You will reverse-engineer RPG and CL, maintain Web Sphere MQ / Integration Bus / B2B for EDI with shipping lines, customs, rail, and trucking, and build APIs that connect the AS400 to modern port tools. This is a hands-on lead seat, not a coordinator role.
What You'll Do- Reverse-engineer homegrown RPG/CL programs and DB2 tables to map business rules, data structures, and workflows.
- Maintain, configure, and expand IBM Web Sphere middleware (MQ, Integration Bus, B2B) for automated EDI.
- Develop and update maps for maritime and logistics EDI sets: 210, 214, 301, 310, 322, 850, and 856.
- Troubleshoot failed EDI transmissions and translations, spool and batch jobs, and apply emergency fixes.
- Design REST/SOAP APIs, Web Sphere messaging channels, and database connectors from the AS400 to modern web and SaaS tools.
- Document undocumented business logic, schemas, architecture, and Web Sphere routing paths.
- 8+ years hands-on IBM i / AS400 development with RPG and CL.
- IBM Web Sphere middleware: MQ, Integration Bus, or B2B.
- EDI mapping and translation, including maritime or logistics transaction sets (210, 214, 301, 310, 322, 850/856).
- DB2 on AS400.
- Troubleshooting failed EDI transmissions, spool, and batch jobs in production.
- REST or SOAP API design and database connectors.
- Able to work on-site in Newark, NJ.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
