Terminal Vehicle InspectorFull Time Newark, NJ, US
Position OverviewA hybrid role encompassing depot and safety responsibilities that provides support to depot, safety, and operations by conducting or facilitating the inspection, maintenance and repair of terminal facilities and equipment.
Essential Depot Functions- Inspect equipment and note any damage
- Inputs data into the Depot computer system
- Coordinate maintenance, repair, and driver inspection reports for company truck fleet
- Visually inspect vehicles to ensure any vehicle maintenance violations are corrected
- Complete daily lot checks observing security breaches, damaged equipment, etc
- Communicate issues with staff or drivers to management
- Correct and update system with correct unit numbers or units needing to be placed on hold
- Coordinate with other terminal employees and outside contractors as needed to complete tasks efficiently
- Operate various types of yard equipment (lifts, yard tractor, etc.)
- Partner with Safety to Install or remove in-vehicle camera and gateway
- Apply or remove vehicle decals
- Conduct in-house vehicle inspections
- Complete company-owned chassis inspections & ensure FHWA’s are current
- Coordinate installation of fixed safety-related communications or equipment
- Assist with on-site emergency response to accidents/incidents on premises
- Conduct new hire driver yard driving assessments, as needed
- Perform required inspections of equipment and machinery to ensure proper function, identify, and communicate any potential hazards
- Ability to work flexible hours in demanding physical conditions, including exposure to extreme temperatures and heavy equipment
- Ability to conduct CMV driver safety and operations instruction and training
- Skill to operate handheld tools and knowledge to complete basic maintenance projects
- Possess basic knowledge of workplace safety, fleet maintenance, and transportation regulations
- Professional Communications - electronic, e‑mail and in person
- Possess office skills, such as scanning, MS Office suite, using 3rd party web programs, picture transfer/uploading
- Respond to and send emails as an essential communications tool
- Support additional projects that arise in the depot or other duties as assigned
