Summary

As a Load Coordinator, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient planning, assignment, and execution of freight movement. This position serves as the operational link between customer service, dispatch, and terminal activity. You’ll be responsible for auditing orders, forecasting volume, coordinating port activity, and maintaining up-to‑date load visibility to keep freight flowing and customers informed.

What You'll Do
  • Order Management & Auditing:
    Review and audit incoming order information to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely entry into TMS and internal systems.
  • Volume Forecasting:
    Manage inbound and outbound load volume to assist with capacity planning and forecasting for short- and long‑term needs.
  • Work Assignment & Planning:
    Manage the coordination and assigning next‑day and same‑day work orders, ensuring all operational requirements are met for smooth dispatch execution.
  • Port Operations Coordination:
    Track and trace containers at the port, including monitoring demurrage, street turns, and per diem exposure. Schedule and monitor port appointments as needed.
  • Board Updates:
    Maintain accurate and real‑time updates to load boards, shipment status systems, and visibility platforms to reflect active freight status and reduce delays or miscommunications.
  • Customer Service Support:
    Act as a liaison between customer service and operations teams, helping to resolve inquiries, support service recovery efforts, and maintain clear communication regarding freight movements.
  • Empty Terminations & Street Turns:
    Monitor and coordinate container empty return requirements and optimize street turn opportunities to improve operational efficiency.
  • Problem Solving:
    Troubleshoot exceptions or service disruptions, escalat e issues as needed, and support collaborative solutions to minimize customer impact.
What You Bring
  • Experience:

    2-3 years in logistics, dispatch, port operations, or freight coordination, in a transportation or intermodal environment. Preferred bachelor’s degree, with at least 1 year experience in a direct management or supervisory role.
  • Industry Knowledge:
    Familiarity with port operations, container movements, demurrage, and per diem charges; understanding of domestic and international freight operations is a plus.

    Skills:

    High attention to detail and strong time management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Leadership

    Skills:

    Proven ability to lead, mentor, and influence team performance across multiple levels and functions.
  • Communication

    Skills:

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively liaise between departments and external partners.
  • Problem‑Solving:
    Resourceful mindset with the ability to anticipate issues and find practical solutions quickly under pressure.
  • Tech‑Savvy:
    Experience using TMS systems, port tracing tools, Excel, and real‑time freight visibility platforms.
  • Team Player:
    Strong collaboration skills with a positive, can‑do attitude and willingness to jump in and support the broader team.
Position Type And Expected Hours Of Work

Exempt Role with approximately 40-60 hours of work per week

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
