Equine Veterinarian Wanted – Let’s Do Things Differently

We all know there’s a growing shortage of veterinarians choosing equine practice. Many talented doctors are leaving—or never entering—our field because of low pay, long hours, lack of support, or not enough time left over to enjoy their own lives or their own horses.

If that sounds like you, we’d like to hear about it. Tell us what’s made you hesitant or discouraged about equine practice—because we’ve built our clinic to be the opposite. Discover why Oakhurst offers a truly different kind of veterinary career—read more on our blog at  while you also review our ad for a new associate.

  • Pay and Benefits That Respect YouCompetitive compensation, full benefits, and production bonuses designed to make equine practice sustainable.
  • Work-Life Balance – Reasonable schedules, shared call rotations, and real time off. Yes—you’ll have time to ride your own horse, be with your family, or just take a breather.
  • Support and Mentorship – A collaborative team with experienced veterinarians, skilled techs, and modern tools so you’re not out there on your own.
  • A Culture That Cares – We’re horse people ourselves. We understand why you chose this profession, and we’re committed to making sure it’s still worth it.

We’re looking for an equine veterinarian who wants to practice great medicine, be valued for their expertise, and still enjoy life outside the truck.

If you’ve ever thought, “I love equine medicine, but not the lifestyle,” reach out. Let’s talk about how we can make this career rewarding again.

And wait—have you even considered the Pacific Northwest?

If not, you might be missing out. Call or text Cookie at  for a relaxed, no‑pressure chat and find out why we love this corner of the country and how it could be the perfect backdrop for the next chapter of your career.

We provide a comprehensive range of equine care, including but not limited to:
  • Sports Medicine & Lameness
  • Reproduction
  • Surgery

Why Oregon? Why not.

If you’re ready to grow your career without giving up the life you love, Oregon—and the Pacific Northwest—offers the best of both worlds. Think mild weather, stunning coastlines, rugged mountains, and lush wine country all within a short drive. Hike, ride, ski, surf, or sip your way through weekends that feel like vacations.

Beyond the outdoors, you’ll find a thriving farm‑to‑table food scene, world‑class wineries and craft breweries, vibrant cultural experiences, and communities that truly value connection.

Our clinic sits in the heart of it all—Oregon’s wine country—with quick access to Portland’s urban energy, coastal escapes, and mountain trails. It’s the perfect home base for equine professionals who want a career that’s challenging and rewarding, balanced with a lifestyle that’s second to none.

About You:

You’re a dedicated equine professional who cares deeply about horse health and welfare. You communicate clearly, work well with others, and thrive in a team that values trust and collaboration. Building strong relationships—with both horses and their owners—comes naturally to you. A valid veterinary license is required, and a drive to make a meaningful impact in the equine community is essential.

We’re especially excited to also connect with board‑certified or board‑eligible surgeons and internal medicine specialists who are eager to help expand our surgical program and support our 24‑hour care services. Let us hear from you!
