Role Overview

An established building services consultancy is seeking an Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer to join its Edinburgh office. The role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects across the UK, supporting senior engineers in the design and delivery of high-quality electrical building services solutions. You will contribute to electrical design from concept through to construction, working collaboratively with mechanical engineers, architects, and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design and development of electrical building services systems, including:
    • Power distribution
    • Lighting and lighting controls
    • Emergency lighting
    • Small power and data systems
    • Fire alarm and life safety systems
  • Produce technical calculations, reports, drawings, and specifications
  • Support delivery of projects through all RIBA stages
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant standards and regulations (BS 7671, CIBSE, Building Regulations)
  • Coordinate with internal and external design teams
  • Attend project and design team meetings as required
  • Support site inspections, surveys, and responses to contractor queries
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of technical standards and processes
Skills & Experience
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
  • Typically 2–5 years experience in electrical building services design
  • Working knowledge of UK building services standards and regulations
  • Experience using industry software such as:
    • AutoCAD / Revit
    • Electrical calculation tools (e.g. Amtech, Dialux, Relux or similar)
  • Ability to work independently on defined tasks with support from senior engineers
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Enthusiastic, proactive approach to learning and professional development
Desirable
  • Progress toward or interest in Chartered Engineer (CEng or IEng) status
  • Experience across a range of sectors (commercial, residential, education, healthcare, etc.)
  • Familiarity with sustainable design and low-carbon technologies
