Job Description

The Humanities Teacher delivers high-quality teaching and learning experiences within the Humanities department. The role involves planning, preparing and delivering engaging lessons to students, assessing and monitoring their progress, and supporting their academic and personal development. The post holder is responsible for fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment, encouraging critical thinking and enquiry, and promoting a broad understanding of Humanities subjects.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver effective lessons across a range of Humanities topics, ensuring curriculum objectives are met.
Assess, record and report on student progress, providing constructive feedback to support improvement.
Adapt teaching methods and resources to meet the diverse needs and abilities of students.
Maintain a safe, organised and stimulating learning environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
Support students’ personal, social and academic development through pastoral care and mentoring where required.
Contribute to the development and review of Humanities curriculum and resources.
Participate in departmental and school meetings, training sessions and professional development activities.
Promote high standards of behaviour, attendance and punctuality in accordance with school policies.
Ensure compliance with safeguarding and health and safety regulations at all times.

Required Qualifications

Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
Degree in a Humanities-related discipline such as History, Geography, Religious Studies, or Social Sciences.

Education

Good honours degree (Bachelor’s level) in Humanities or a closely related subject.
Evidence of continuous professional development relevant to teaching and Humanities education.

Experience

Previous experience in teaching Humanities at secondary level is highly desirable.
Experience in planning and delivering lessons that meet curriculum standards and assessments.
Demonstrated ability to manage classroom behaviour effectively.

Knowledge and Skills

Strong subject knowledge within Humanities disciplines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage students and liaise with colleagues.
Ability to use assessment data to inform teaching practise and student support.
Competence in using educational technology and digital resources to enhance learning.
Organisational skills to manage workload and meet deadlines efficiently.
Understanding of safeguarding procedures and child protection legislation.

Preferred Qualifications

Postgraduate qualification in Education or Humanities subject.

Experience with examination preparation and knowledge of assessment frameworks.
Training or certification in special educational needs or inclusion practises.

Working Conditions

Temporary full-time position based within a school setting in Newbury, Berkshire.
Standard school hours with occasional requirements for additional hours such as meetings or events.
Work involves standing for extended periods and engaging energetically with students.
Requires adherence to all health and safety and safeguarding policies.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
