SENCare Recruitment is currently working with a specialist school in Berkshire that is seeking an experienced Interim Assistant Headteacher to join its senior leadership team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced senior leader who can step into an established specialist setting, provide immediate leadership support and help maintain high standards of education, behaviour, safeguarding and pastoral care.

The school supports children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, so previous experience within a specialist, alternative provision or similar complex-needs environment would be highly advantageous.

The Role
  • Supporting the Headteacher with the strategic and operational leadership of the school
  • Providing visible and effective leadership to teaching and support staff
  • Supporting high standards of teaching, learning and pupil outcomes
  • Leading and supporting behaviour, pastoral and safeguarding practices
  • Supporting pupils with SEN, SEMH and additional or complex needs
  • Monitoring standards and contributing to school improvement priorities
  • Coaching, supporting and providing direction to staff
  • Working collaboratively with parents, carers and external professionals
  • Ensuring policies and procedures are implemented consistently across the school
  • Supporting preparations for inspections and quality assurance where required
  • Deputising for senior leaders when necessary
The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for an experienced education professional who can quickly establish themselves as a confident and credible member of the senior leadership team.

  • QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
  • Previous experience within a senior leadership position, ideally Assistant Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher or equivalent
  • Strong experience working with SEN and/or SEMH pupils
  • Experience with in a specialist school, alternative provision or complex-needs setting
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding and behaviour management
  • A good understanding of school improvement, teaching and learning and quality assurance
  • The ability to lead, motivate and support multidisciplinary teams
  • A calm, resilient and solution-focused approach
  • The ability to quickly understand an established school's needs and provide effective leadership from day one
