Job Description & How to Apply Below

Design complex automation. Own your solutions. Help shape the engineering team.

Are you an experienced Mechanical Engineer who enjoys solving complex design challenges and seeing your ideas become real, working machinery?

Boston Conveyor & Automation (BCA), part of the Mpac Group
, is growing and we're looking for a talented Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering team in Newburyport, Massachusetts.

BCA designs and builds custom automation equipment
, including robotic work cells, conveyor systems and automated process machinery for customers across food manufacturing, life sciences and general manufacturing. It's an environment where engineers have the opportunity to invent, innovate and take ownership of their original designs
.

If you have a strong background in machine design, Solid Works and custom automation
, and you're ready to take technical ownership of more complex projects while mentoring other engineers, we'd like to hear from you.

What you'll be doing

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll take responsibility for complex, large-scale designs where there may be significant technical challenges and risks. You'll work collaboratively with Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Controls Engineering, Project Management, Applications and Sales.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Designing and developing complex custom machinery and automation solutions
    .
  • Reviewing customer drawings and specifications to determine project requirements and design feasibility.
  • Performing engineering calculations including stress analysis, load analysis, chain pull and speed requirements
    .
  • Evaluating designs for regulatory and safety compliance.
  • Developing and refining designs following engineering and peer reviews.
  • Taking ownership of technically complex, large-scale and higher-risk design projects.
  • Initiating and participating in design peer reviews
, both for your own work and that of other engineers.
  • Mentoring engineers within the department and taking ownership of departmental initiatives.
  • Working with suppliers on component selection and technical requirements.
  • Collaborating with purchasing, quality, production, fabrication, controls, welding, finishing and assembly teams.
  • Communicating project status, priorities and technical challenges effectively.
  • Occasionally travelling to customer sites for project evaluation, measurements and installation supervision.
What we're looking for

We're looking for an experienced engineer who can combine strong mechanical design skills with the confidence to take ownership of challenging engineering projects.

You'll ideally bring:

  • Demonstrable years of relevant engineering experience.
  • A solid background in machine and process design
    .
  • Experience working with and manipulating facility layouts in AutoCAD
    .
  • A strong understanding of machine safety standards
    .
  • The ability to prioritise effectively and deliver within tight project timescales.
  • The ability to mentor and support other engineers.
  • An Associate Degree in Engineering or equivalent two-year college qualification, with a Bachelor's Degree preferred. Equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
Highly benefical:

Experience leading complex, high-risk engineering projects involving large multidisciplinary teams
.

This isn't a role where you'll spend your time making minor changes to the same product.

BCA develops custom machinery and automation
, giving you the opportunity to solve different engineering challenges, influence designs and follow your work from concept through engineering, manufacturing and ultimately installation.

You'll be joining a business that values Integrity, Drive, Collaboration, Expertise and Innovation
, while having the opportunity to make an impact on both projects and the wider engineering team.

You'll receive a comprehensive benefits package including:

  • Health Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • 401(k) with company matching
  • Paid vacation, holidays and sick time

Ready for your next engineering challenge?

If you're an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a passion for custom machinery, automation and solving complex engineering problems
, this could be an excellent next step.
