Food Safety Specialist

Location: Newburyport, MA

Schedule: Mon-Fri | 6:30am-4pm

Salary: $65-75,000 + Benefits

• Conduct audits to ensure compliance with food safety, GMPs, and sanitation standards; address noncompliance.
• Perform environmental and microbiological testing of equipment, facilities, and materials.
• Prepare reports and recommend corrective actions for audit and monitoring deficiencies.
• Collect and test raw materials and finished products to verify specification compliance.
• Coordinate shipments of samples to external labs promptly and correctly.
• Review and maintain accurate production documentation and records.
• Report noncompliance issues, such as out-of-specification products and foreign materials, to relevant departments.
• Provide technical support and troubleshoot food safety and quality issues.
• Stay informed on regulations, customer requirements, and technological advancements, updating QA management.
• Participate in continuous improvement, training, and company meetings.
• Maintain laboratory facilities, equipment, and supplies per good laboratory practices.
• Oversee instrument calibration, logs, and retention samples as required.
• Coordinate and document shelf‑life testing, including sensory and microbial evaluations.

• Bachelor's degree in food science or a related scientific field
• 1-2 years of experience within a food manufacturing environment; experience within quality assurance and food safety strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of HACCP, SQF, PCQI and other food safety principles.
