Paralegal – Housing Disrepair
Working pattern:
Hybrid working available
We’re recruiting a Paralegal to join an established Housing Disrepair team in Newcastle.
This is a good opportunity for a law graduate looking to build proper hands-on experience in claimant work.
You won’t be sitting on the sidelines watching other people run cases. You’ll be involved in the early stages of claims, speaking with clients, reviewing case information and helping the wider team keep files moving. You’ll have supervision and support, but you’ll also need to be organised enough to manage a busy workload without being chased for everything.
The role
A large part of the job is making sure new and existing housing disrepair matters are dealt with properly and
efficiently. You’ll speak with clients to gather the information needed to assess their claim, review incoming documentation and help determine which matters should progress.
You’ll also work with triage information and assist with closing down cases that don’t meet the required criteria. Once matters are underway, you’ll help with the day-to-day administration and progression of files. That means dealing with correspondence, emails and calls, keeping the case management system accurate and liaising with surveyors, experts and other parties involved in the claim.
What we’re looking for
- This role is aimed primarily at a law graduate who wants to develop practical experience within litigation.
- You’ll need strong written and spoken communication skills because there is plenty of client contact.
- Some conversations will require patience and a clear explanation of what happens next, so good client care matters.
- Organisation is equally important. You’ll be dealing with multiple files, competing deadlines and a steady flow of correspondence, so you need to be comfortable prioritising work and keeping accurate electronic records.
- Attention to detail is essential.
- You’ll be reviewing information that can affect whether a claim progresses, and mistakes have consequences.
- You should also be comfortable handling confidential information, working as part of a wider legal team and asking questions when something needs clarification.
Package
Alongside a competitive salary, the business offers a broader benefits package including:
• Hybrid working for eligible roles
• annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing with service (option to purchase additional annual leave)
• Attendance-related bonus
• Funded quarterly team activities
• Workplace pension
• Death-in-service benefit after qualifying service
• Employee assistance programme with 24-hour support
• Cycle-to-work and public transport schemes
• Flu vaccination and eyecare support
Reasonable adjustments can be made throughout the recruitment process and, where required, within the role.
