We have an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Construction Manager to lead on the successful delivery of our flagship 20,000-capacity indoor arena in Bristol.

Once home to every UK-built Concorde, the Brabazon Hangars are being repurposed into a brand-new venue for Bristol and set to be the South West's top destination for music, comedy, sports, and entertainment.

In this role, you will work closely with the Project Construction Director and Senior Project Manager to lead and oversee all construction activities on the arena.

You’ll play a key part in upholding and embedding YTL Construction UK’s ethos of “Building the Right Thing,” helping to shape systems, behaviours, and outcomes that reflect our commitment to quality, sustainability, and innovation.

What you’ll do

You will be required to lead and oversee overall construction, site management, and external resources required for the arena project on an individual and team basis.

You will be required to work closely with other members of the team namely project management, planning, design and commercial to collectively achieve project aims and objectives, whilst ensuring the successful delivery of the project in line with all stakeholders' expectations.

Within the role, you will have a key influence on the overall construction delivery programme and agreed project milestones, whilst assisting with the timely sequencing, methodology, and production of all necessary plans.

In addition, you will be required to:

  • build and define the roles of your site managers to create a dynamic and cohesive delivery team
  • oversee all construction personnel on-site, which is expected to exceed 500 people at the peak of the arena project
  • promote a culture of openness, commitment, learning and collective responsibility with your leadership being key when delivering the arena project
  • develop, implement, and monitor core working programmes that meet the long-term objectives set
  • set appropriate build stage milestones
  • lead and promote the Health & Safety culture of site, and ensure compliance with policies & procedures
  • manage internal stakeholders, on-site contractors and suppliers through regular communication, meetings, and workshops to facilitate good working relationships
  • input into the technical & capability aspects of procurement and production of scope of works for packages
  • resolve design and construction issues in a timely manner to minimise construction disruptionsmanage risks and identify opportunities to avoid project delays, reputational damage, and contractual disputes
  • introduce systems and processes to safeguard, manage and deliver building materials
  • produce progress and management reports as required.
What you’ll need

The successful individual will have previous large-scale commercial experience as a Construction Manager and will have worked on major schemes of circa £150-200M.

You will have a proven track record of successfully delivering major projects with a Tier 1 main contractor.

You will have either an HNC, HND, or degree in a construction or engineering subject and hold membership with a relevant industry body such as CIOB, APM, CIAT or RICS.

As a construction professional, you will have the following skills and experience:

  • demonstrate leadership through action and behaviours
  • previous experience in leading Tier 1 site management
  • the ability to develop, manage, and maintain successful relationships, both internally and externally
  • strong working knowledge of typical construction contracts and professional appointments
  • self-manage time and priorities and receive high level delegation of tasks and responsibilities
  • enthusiastic team player, who can listen, understand, motivate, and show confidence to make decisions when required
  • maintain personal and professional development regarding legislation, technology, and industry best practice.
