Elvet Recruitment are recruiting an Assistant Site Manager on behalf of a leading UK construction contractor to support the successful delivery of high‑quality projects in the North East. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, enjoys working with people, and is committed to maintaining high standards of safety, quality and programme delivery.

The Role

As Assistant Site Manager, you will help coordinate the day‑to‑day running of the site, supervise trades, maintain accurate records and ensure all works are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with our Quality Assurance procedures. You will support the Site Manager with subcontractor coordination, document control, programme tracking, commercial awareness and client communication, playing a key part in driving the project forward.

Key Responsibilities

* Support the management of subcontractors, monitoring progress and coordinating daily activities

* Produce short‑term weekly programmes aligned with the overall project schedule

* Maintain accurate site records including diaries, labour returns and material logs

* Ensure inspection and test plans are understood and followed

* Record design changes, CVIs and change notes

* Maintain drawing registers and ensure subcontractors work to current information

* Assist with ordering and controlling materials, plant and equipment

* Monitor unbudgeted costs and support commercial reporting

* Prepare Method Statements and Risk Assessments for activities under your control

* Promote and maintain high standards of Health & Safety

* Interpret drawings accurately to support setting‑out requirements

* Communicate effectively with the Site Manager, design team and subcontractors

* Represent the business professionally at all times

About You

* Health & Safety qualifications including SMSTS and CSCS (minimum requirement)

* Previous experience in the construction industry

* Confident working with architects, engineers, clients and subcontractors

* Strong communication and organisational skills

* A proactive, responsible and professional approach to work

Remuneration

Up to £50,000 DOE + car/car allowance.
